BERT  MARTIN - MEMORIES
Page Two
Bert took part in Scrambles racing also during his racing career.
Once again on a Harley twin.
....back to Speedway.
The tapes are up at the Royale - Bert position 3 from pole.
Peter Hales.
Bert pulls infield with a fire aboard the outfit - Reg Mulligan first on the scene with a fire extinguisher.
Fire is extiguished.
Bert and passenger Col Denny over.
The big and the small - Jack O'Dea ( South Australian Speedcar driver )
lifts 5ft tall Lionel Levy onto his shoulder.
A great action shot of Bert and passenger.
IDs - anyone ?
I doubt if anyone else in the world went Speedway racing with a set up such as this.

Thanks Kerry - a pleasure to present your Dad's photos... Brian.

The following five photos are all
from Moorebank Scrambles track.

I can remember Bert riding that great big Harley against all the lighter scrambles outfits.
The first shot is taken from the inside of the track - pits in the background.
Second shot is rounding the concrete culvert (it's still there although nothing else from the track has survived), this was the first corner.
The third shot (a real beauty) is on the lower section of the track approaching the Georges River.
4th shot, approaching the culvert, #49 is Neil Tough on his Norton, a consistent winner at Moorebank, and the final shot is also the first corner.
I reckon these would have been taken prior to 1958 because you can see in the 2nd shot that the Speedway Act safety fences have not yet been erected.

These facts courtesy of
 Jim Scaysbrook...thanks Jim.

Col Denny out to it.
